Over 300 bird species are found in this 29-sq-kms-wildlife park of divided into the stretches of marshes, scrubland and grassland. It got its name as Keoladeo Ghana Park on account of an ancient Hindu temple at the centre of the national park devoted to Lord Shiva. Surrounded by hills on all sides, this Rose Pink City founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II (1693-1743), is the capital of Rajasthan. The whole city was painted pink by Maharaja Man Singh II when Prince of Wales, later Edward VII, visited Jaipur in 1876. Today, every home within the city is obliged by law to maintain his facade. Did you know? Jaipur, commonly referred to as the “Pink City” was not actually meant to be “pink.” Maharaja Jai Singh decided to paint the city in the same red sandstone used in Delhi and Agra to symbolize imperialism. However, since the city was made out of rubble rather than stone, the red colour turned pale and became pink. The original red still remains in some parts of the “Pink City” !!
